The heartwood of sapele is a golden to dark reddish brown. The color frequently darkens with age. Sapele is known for a wide variety of figured grain patterns, such as pommele, quilted, mottled, wavy, beeswing and fiddleback. Sapele has a slight dulling effect on cutters, however, it glues, turns and finishes well. Common uses are veneer, furniture, cabinetry, flooring, boat building, musical instruments and turned instruments.
