Custom Country Woods

Upon entering the workforce in 1981, Lenny Armstrong got his first job working at a historic furniture company in Jamestown, NY. In 1982, he moved to a position with a hardwood sawmill in his hometown of Conewango Valley which had been owned and operated by my wife Lisa’s family since the 1930’s until they sold it to a furniture company from Jamestown, NY.

Over the next fifteen years, Lenny Armstrong developed a love and appreciation for trees and lumber. The years spent at the mill he was able to gain vast experience in all aspects of the business. Along with developing a love and appreciation he was told early on by a co-worker “Once you get sawdust in your blood you can’t get it out.”  Lenny Armstrong

Even though there were many sawmills in the area, none sold kiln dried lumber. Lenny saw a need for kiln dried hardwoods. In August 1997, he started Custom Country Woods servicing hobbyist, small shops, and many of the Amish furniture and cabinet makers in the Conewango Valley area which is home to the largest and oldest settlement in New York. Over the years, they have expanded the product line to include exotic hardwoods, flooring, molding, and live-edge flitches or slabs. It has now become a family endeavor with his sons joining him in different aspects of the business.
