When purpleheart is first cut its heartwood is a dull grayish to purplish-brown, exposed the color is deeper purple. As purpleheart ages it becomes a dark brown with a hint of purple. It is very durable but working with it requires sharp tools. Purpleheart’s great color can beautifully accentuate a piece of furniture. Common uses are inlays, flooring, furniture and specialty wood items.
