The heartwood of Padauk can be pinkish to a deep brownish red. When first cut the color can be reddish orange, when exposed the color can change to reddish-purplish brown. Padauk is easy to work with, it is similar to walnut. Because of its unique color, it is popular among hobbyist. Common uses are flooring, turned objects, musical instruments, furniture and tool handles.
