Cherry is known for being one of the best all-around woods. The heartwood is a light pinkish brown when freshly cut that darkens to a medium reddish brown with time and exposure to light. The sapwood is a creamy satiny white. The grain is usually straight, with a fine, even texture. It is easily cut and machines well. When sanded, stained and polished, cherry has a beautiful smooth finish. Common uses are cabinetry, fine furniture, flooring, interior millwork, veneer and specialty wood items.
