The heartwood is pale yellow. Koto has little color variation from sapwood to heartwood. The grain is straight to slightly interlocked. Koto is good to work with, though tearout can happen on pieces with interlocked grain. It stains and finishes well. Common uses are veneer, plywood and furniture.
